Music Books I Love: Appetite for Self Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age
This book by Steve Knopper is an amazing chronicle of the effect of new media technologies on the record industry. Knopper interviews the record insiders who anticipated these new technologies, the executives who failed to embrace these new technologies as well as the maverick creators of the technologies like MP3 and file-sharing software that has brought the record industry to its knees. Appetite offers a fantastic account of the industry's boom and bust due to the CD revolution. Appetite also traces the origins of the Ipod and the success of Itunes. For an absorbing account of the music industry in the 21st century, check out this book.
