Rock Movies I Love: Eddie and the Cruisers

"Wild Summer Nights." "Tender Years." "On the Darkside." These are my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups Eddie and the Cruisers. Remember them? They were an early 60's rock group from Jersey with that scaldingly hot lead singer and guitarist Eddie Wilson. To borrow a way over used cliche the group was about to "hit it big." Tragically, Eddie disappeared one night. No, he didn't die - Eddie's body was never recovered. He just disappeared - like Amelia Earhart disappeared - never to be seen again.... OK, OK - before they come after me with butterfly nets - Eddie and the Cruisers is not a real group. Not real like Jonas Brothers real - OK, really bad example. Eddie and the Cruisers is a 1983 movie, starring pre-The Big Easy Ellen Barkin as the TV reporter investigating the Eddie Wilson disappearance, pre-Streets of Fire - and before he wondered into cinematic oblivion -Michael Pare in his breakout performance as the doomed Eddie, and pre-Platoon Tom Barringer as the former Cruiser pianist and songwriter who's also trying to solve the mystery of Wilson's whereabout's, especially when Eddie sightings begin to crop up. It's a groovy rock and roll mystery if that's your cup of tea.
